Russia has imposed sanctions and bans on a number of American officials including Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Jen Psaki. These actions come as a result of the sweeping sanctions imposed on the Kremlin by the United States and many other western countries which have crippled the Russian economy in recent weeks. Russia’s Foreign Ministry said that the decision was made “on the basis of reciprocity” and that more names are expected to be added to target those who are “Russophobic or contribute to inciting hatred towards Russia and the introduction of restrictive measures.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki shrugged off the ban, saying she had no plan to make a tourist visit to Russia anytime soon. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton joked that she wanted to, "thank the Russian Academy for this Lifetime Achievement Award.” It’s clear this decision hasn’t had the effect the Kremlin wanted it to have as the American officials these sanctions targeted don’t seem to mind not being allowed into Russia.
