New Report Makes Strong Case to Ban Fracking from Rising Up With Sonali on Vimeo.
Sonali Kolhatkar speaks with Barbara Gottlieb, Environment & Health Program Director With Physicians for Social Responsibility.
About a decade ago, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) overruled its own research over the toxicity of so-called “forever chemicals” that are used in hydraulic fracturing (or fracking) operations. The revelation about the “Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances” or PFAS, came from the group Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) via newly obtained documents from the EPA. According to a new PSR report, “oil and gas firms injected PFAS into more than 1,200 wells since 2012.”
Barbara Gottlieb is Director for Environment & Health at Physicians for Social Responsibility, a nationwide organization of health professionals working to protect human life from the gravest threats to health and survival.
