Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall says that women in Alabama who use abortion pills to end pregnancies could soon be prosecuted. Alabama's new Human Life Protection Act criminalizes abortion providers however it also prevents it from being enforced against people receiving abortions. Instead, Marshall’s office stated that Alabama could rely on an older law, the chemical endangerment law, to prosecute a woman who ingests an abortion pill to end a pregnancy. This goes to show that whenever you criminalize abortion, you directly attack the autonomy and sovereignty that women should have over their own bodies. Republicans used to claim that they wouldn’t try to punish women in a world where Roe vs. Wade was overturned. Now that Roe has been struck down, they even want to go after women who seek to end a pregnancy via a pill at the very early stages.
