Free Speech TV Announces the Network Premiere of Healing Justice

Denver, October 16, 2019 Healing Justice, a transformative documentary that explores the causes and consequences of the current North American criminal justice system and its effect on marginalized communities, will have its U.S. national broadcast premiere on Thursday, October 17th, at 7 p.m. EST, on Free Speech TV.

Healing Justice walks back through the history of violence that has led to our current system, bringing into focus the histories of trauma – on a personal, interpersonal, community, and generational level. This powerful documentary addresses the school-to-prison pipeline, the need for comprehensive criminal justice reform, and the importance of healing and restorative practices. Designed for dialogue, Healing Justice is meant to prompt questions and open conversations, exploring trauma, justice, and healing. FSTV will present the films with 30-second breaks between segments to give the viewer an opportunity to reflect on their own feelings and experiences.

“When we have large social problems, it’s absolutely necessary to have media involved to help address those problems. We are delighted to have Free Speech TV, a network dedicated to social justice, to use this film to help people understand the school to prison pipeline, and to encourage everyone to become more engaged within their sphere of influence.” says filmmaker, and World Trust Educational Services’ president and founder, Shakti Butler, PhD.

In November 2019, World Trust Educational Services and Free Speech TV are planning a virtual screening so that viewers and community organizations can continue the dialogue about criminal justice reform, restorative practices, the school to prison pipeline, women in prison, the economics of mass incarceration and the power of healing. More information on this hosted interactive experience will be available at freespeech.org and world-trust.org by October 30, 2019.

“This gripping film presents a series of inconvenient truths that will challenge your head and your heart in unexpected ways, says Ron Williams, Free Speech TV’s Executive Director. By presenting fresh, difficult, and powerful insights, Healing Justice does what only great films can do – it opens up the possibility for both genuine healing and the shaping of new and deeply necessary solutions.”
