David Graeber was an American anthropologist, author, and activist whose seminal book, Debt: The First Five Thousand Years, catapulted him into international fame and became a best-seller. On Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020, Graeber passed away suddenly at a hospital in Venice. He was only 59 years old. The cause of death is still unknown.
David Graeber was a renowned anarchist thinker who taught at the London School of Economics and was a central figure in the Occupy Wall Street movement credited for contributing to the term “We are the 99%.” His latest book is The Dawn of Everything: a New History of Humanity that is scheduled to be published next fall.
In December 2012, when his book Debt, The First 5,000 years was just released, Rising Up host Sonali Kolhatkar spoke with David Graeber in the studios of KPFK Pacifica Radio. Today we remember the influential thinker with an excerpt of that conversation.
