2020 Democrats Spar on Foreign Policy, Electability, Free College & More at 7th Democratic Debate

Six Democratic presidential candidates sparred on Tuesday night in Des Moines, the last debate before the crucial Iowa caucuses. The debate, hosted by CNN and The Des Moines Register, focused heavily on foreign policy and rising tensions with Iran following the U.S. assassination of that country’s top military commander, Qassem Soleimani.

As the presidential field continues to narrow, the U.S. Senate is preparing for the historic impeachment trial of President Trump, for which Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, and independent Senator Bernie Sanders are all expected to leave the campaign trail to serve their role as jurors.

Democracy Now! hosts a roundtable discussion with: Phyllis Bennis, fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies; Alexis Goldstein, activist and TruthOut contributor who worked for seven years on Wall Street at Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank; journalist Julian Brave NoiseCat of the Secwepemc and St’at’imc Nations, who serves as vice president of policy and strategy at the think tank Data for Progress; Larry Hamm, chair of the People’s Organization for Progress, who is running for U.S. Senate in New Jersey; and Julio Ricardo Varela, co-host of the "In the Thick" political podcast and founder of Latino Rebels.

Democracy Now! produces a daily, global, independent news hour hosted by award-winning journalists Amy Goodman and Juan González.
