The midterm outlook for Democrats continues to improve with Dems now having a 68% chance of winning the Senate and a 24% chance of holding the House of Representatives, according to FiveThirtyEight. A few months ago, the Senate was much more of a toss-up with there being virtually no possibility of Democrats keeping control of the lower chamber. But a number of factors have gone in the left’s direction over the past few months, making it plausible that President Biden could get two more years with total control of Congress. The overturning of Roe vs. Wade and Republicans’ draconian stance on the abortion issue has moved voters back in the Democratic direction. President Biden has had a number of recent accomplishments, including signing the Inflation Reduction Act into law and wiping out a portion of student loan debt. And also the figurehead of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, being investigated by the FBI and having his home searched is not doing the right any favors. There are still two months to go before the midterms, but if this trajectory keeps up, Democrats could pull off some major upsets.
