Ron DeSantis has defeated Donald Trump in a 2024 Republican presidential straw poll. The poll was taken at the Western Conservative Summit held in Colorado and for a second year in a row, the Florida Governor came out on top over the ex-president. The poll is a bit different than most, as rather than putting candidates up against each other, it asks attendees who they would approve of as the Republican nominee with the option to select multiple candidates. DeSantis won with 71.0% approval, with Trump coming in second place at 67.7%. Next came Ted Cruz at 28.7%, Ben Carson at 24.2%, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders at 18.4%. Trump has been outraged for the past year over DeSantis’s rising star in the Republican Party and the results of this poll must be having him worried that if he launches another run for president, he may not even win the GOP’s nomination.
