Tucker Carlson appears to be siding with Vladimir Putin in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, partially as a way to attack the Biden administration. Earlier this week, Carlson said that “Ukraine is not even a democracy, despite what Joe Biden endlessly claims. Ukraine is a corrupt eastern European autocracy that has spent millions of dollars lobbying politicians in Washington, and by the way, made Joe Biden’s family rich.”
The same can be said about Russia, which is by all accounts more corrupt and more autocratic than Ukraine. The Freedom Index gives Russia a freedom score of 20/100, which is far worse than Ukraine’s 60/100. While there is room for improvement when it comes to Ukraine, the country is at least transitioning towards becoming more democratic, whereas Russia is trending in the opposite direction. Tucker’s propaganda is meant to serve as a justification for Putin’s actions, and he doesn’t care how true it actually is.
