Trump wants to bring back firing squads, televise the executions

Former President Donald Trump reportedly plans to bring back firing squads and televise executions if he wins the presidency in 2024. Trump has previously expressed interest in executing drug dealers who he falsely claims are responsible for 500 deaths each. He has also talked about bringing back death by hanging and guillotine, and possibly even group executions. Trump has even mused about creating a government-backed video ad campaign to accompany a federal revival of these execution methods as a way to put the fear of God into violent criminals. The practical question is whether this will get out the vote and whether there is an appetite for these brutal methods of carrying out executions from Republican voters who support Trump. Even if this idea does work among the right-wing base, it’s inconceivable that independents would go for this if Trump is able to make it to the general election.
