Donald Trump is the most unpopular President in 44 years to run for re-election. According to FiveThirtyEight, on January 1st, Trump's approval rating was a paltry 42.6. That is the lowest approval rating since Gerald Ford.
Is Trump's approval rating even lower now perhaps due to his escalating tensions with Iran?
David Pakman points out that these numbers don't necessarily mean bad news for Trump come November. Pakman says that Trump could easily win re-election in this "hyper-partisan environment" despite losing the popular vote, like he did in 2016. If Trump wins in enough swing states, he could still earn an electoral college victory, even with such a low approval rating.
