Donald Trump is complimenting Vladimir Putin for his invasion of Ukraine. Trump has long been enamored with the Russian president (as well as other dictators), and he’s also using the events of this week to attack his successor, Joe Biden. The ex-POTUS appeared on The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show, where he argued that Biden stole the 2020 election and that he’s too incompetent to lead. Then, Trump began praising Vladimir Putin, saying that “this is genius. Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as an independent.
Oh, that’s wonderful. So Putin is now saying it’s independent, a large section of Ukraine. I said, ‘how smart is that?’ And he’s going to go in and be a peacekeeper.” In fairness, Trump delivered this statement in a tone that suggested he was being critical of what Putin is doing. But Trump chose to compliment Putin nonetheless by calling him “smart” and a “genius” and deep down it’s because Trump wishes he could have pulled off the same type of authoritarian actions when he was the American president.
