Donald Trump and Republicans are raking in millions of dollars by scamming their supporters with fundraising emails for the 2022 midterms. Trump was able to generate $378 million from these email blasts in 2022, and $110 million remains in the former president’s coffers for future campaigns. The emails are particularly aggressive and conspiratorial. As Truthout reports, “if you are a supporter subscribed to Trump’s coveted email list, you are told that ‘sinister forces’ are destroying a nation that rightfully belongs to ‘loyal patriots like you.’” The emails invoke specific QAnon talking points and fascist rhetoric to give the reader a sense of urgency to donate to his super PACs. While this type of messaging wouldn’t work on Joe Biden supporters and folks who are generally left of center, the emails are getting right-wingers to donate handsomely to the ex-president’s war chest.
