When you add up the potential prison time Donald Trump faces just over this latest FBI investigation into his moving of classified documents, the former president could face a total of thirty-three years behind bars. Trump is under investigation for alleged violation of the Espionage Act, which if convicted he could be fined and face up to ten years in prison. The concealment of documents could land him more fines and another three years in prison. Plus, an obstruction of justice charge could result in fines and up to twenty years in prison. These maximum penalties add up to thirty-three years but even if Trump is charged and convicted, he’d likely be serving a much shorter prison sentence if any. But this goes to show the alleged crimes the former president is being investigated for cannot be ignored.
