Former NFL running back Herschel Walker is running as a Trump-endorsed Republican for a US Senate seat in Georgia. He made headlines this week for all the wrong reasons. Walker attempted to disprove the theory of evolution by asking why there are still apes if people supposedly evolved from apes. He said, “at one-time science said a man came from apes. Did it not?. . If that is true, why are there still apes? Think about it.” Walker then gave a pause as if he had just asked something profound. Of course, the answer is that modern humans and modern apes derived from a common ape ancestor. This wouldn’t be a crazy thing for a kid in the third grade learning about evolution for the first time to ask. But Walker is attempting to become one of only one hundred people in America who get to serve in the United States Senate, and this is the level of intelligence we’re dealing with.
