Donald Trump has returned to holding campaign rallies to generate interest in Republican candidates ahead of the 2022 midterms. The latest rally took place in Florida, where the former president repeated debunked lies about election fraud and renewable energy among other topics. He also weighed in on the investigation in New York that’s led to criminal charges against the Trump Organization and its CFO, Allen Weisselberg. Part of the charges involve allegations of tax avoidance, wherein Trump directly paid for Weisselberg’s business perks over a 15-year period. During his rally in Florida, Trump idiotically admitted to not paying taxes on a company car or on funding the education for Weisselberg’s grandchildren. These are items that New York prosecutors are directly looking into, and Trump said about it, “I don’t even know what do you have to put? Does anybody know the answer to that stuff?”
The crowd appeared completely disinterested and confused as to what was going on, but Trump in the moment actually managed to confess to some of the matters being investigated. The crowd only seemed to care once Trump compared his company’s alleged wrongdoing to the Clinton Foundation. The ex-president then openly revealed a tactic which he commonly employs about repeating lies as truths to get people to believe them. However, he expressed that’s what Democrats and the left do. Trump said, “it’s called disinformation. If you say it enough and keep saying it . . . they’ll start to believe you.” This is precisely what Trump did during his presidency and the people at his rally were tricked by the very same tactic. An example of this is that the vast majority of Republican voters believe in the “big lie” that Joe Biden and the Democrats only won the 2020 election due to cheating and widespread voter fraud. Trump offered his fanbase a real “peek behind the curtain” opportunity into his manipulative tactics, but they were obviously unable to catch on. Lying about everything has always been part of Donald Trump’s political strategy and while it’s often failed, it’s managed to win him a loyal following and so far at least one term as President of the United States.
