There is a growing call from Republicans for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to block the extradition of Donald Trump from Florida to New York if he is indicted. Some Republicans claim that the prosecution of Trump is politically motivated and that DeSantis should protect him by creating a sanctuary state for the former president. However, the power of governors to block extradition is very limited and can be challenged in court. A governor may only block extradition if the person's rights would be violated or if the request is politically motivated or improper. If DeSantis were to attempt to block Trump's extradition, it is likely that the courts would rule against him. Furthermore, governors cannot block extradition to another country that falls under federal jurisdiction. Although Trump's lawyers have stated that he would surrender, it is still unclear whether he will ultimately be arrested over these hush money payment allegations.
