The news keeps getting worse for one of Donald Trump’s former voter fraud lawyers. Sidney Powell could get disbarred by the Texas State Bar for possible professional misconduct over the 2020 election lawsuits. A petition from the bar association argues that Powell, “had no reasonable basis to believe the lawsuits she filed were not frivolous” and that she “unreasonably increased the costs or other burdens of the case.”

The district court will hold a hearing to determine whether Powell needs to be held accountable for her wrongdoing. If she’s found guilty, the penalties could range from a public reprimand to a temporary suspension to full disbarment. There absolutely have to be consequences for the propagators of the “big lie” to send the message that lying in a courtroom even on behalf of the president of the United States comes with consequences.
