Fox News propagandist Sean Hannity had former Trump legal team member Sydney Powell on his program to discuss voter fraud in the 2020 election. Perhaps the most interesting part of the exchange was when they brought up presidential pardons. Powell said that Trump’s pardon power is absolute although it’s so far unclear whether or not a president has the power to pardon themselves. Even Sydney Powell, who was kicked off the Trump voter fraud legal team for being too wacky, believes that Trump may not have the power to pardon himself over any and all potential crimes. Sean Hannity went a step further and encouraged Trump to go along with it to protect himself from Biden’s Justice Department.
Trump has spoken before about pardoning himself. In June of 2018 he posted on Twitter, "As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong? In the meantime, the never ending Witch Hunt, led by 13 very Angry and Conflicted Democrats (& others) continues into the mid-terms!" The constitutionality of such a move hasn’t been weighed out yet but maybe it will if/when Trump pardons himself. The topic is much more disputed than Trump and conies would have you believe. Regardless, these are not the words and actions of an innocent man.
