Massive student protest and walkout for gun safety in Nashville, Tennessee

Following a recent school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, over 1,000 students rallied and marched in protest for stronger gun safety laws. This comes as mass shootings continue to occur in the United States at an alarming rate, including last week’s school shooting that resulted in the deaths of three students and three adults. Tennesse Governor Bill Lee has suggested arming teachers and putting armed guards in schools, but students argue that stricter gun laws are needed instead. The shooter in the Nashville incident fired 152 rounds in about 14 minutes, leading many to attribute the severity of the attack to the type of weapon used. Despite calls for action, there has been a lack of progress in implementing gun safety measures due to opposition from the right-wing and gun lobbyists. If history tells us anything, even this recent horrific mass shooting in Nashville won’t lead to any new gun safety measures getting passed.
