There is increased concern about the spread of monkeypox due to a small outbreak of the communicable disease, with symptoms including headache, fever, fatigue, muscle pain, and eventually a rash that forms blisters. Unsurprisingly, especially after two years of dealing with COVID-19, conspiracy theories are already forming about monkeypox from people like Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and Infowars host Alex Jones. Greene speculated that Bill Gates has a hand in this outbreak so that he can treat it and make money off of it. She then went on to dubiously claim that people will need to wear masks to stop the spread of monkeypox and that folks will need to fend off their fear of catching it by cuddling with Bill Gates and Anthony Fauci's body pillows. Jones said about the monkeypox outbreak that may be a side effect of the mass vaccination program for COVID. Clearly, Jones and MTG should not be seen as authorities on these issues of science and medicine. But sadly, countless people have already been listening to them and following their advice on these topics for years and are likely to continue doing so.
