A federal judge has issued an opinion that Donald Trump likely committed multiple felonies when trying to overturn the 2020 election. US District Court Judge David Carter wrote, “based on the evidence, the Court finds it more likely than not that President Trump corruptly attempted to obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021.” This finding could provide a legitimate reason to force Trump and his team to turn over records to investigators as it can be assumed that crimes were possibly committed. Judge Carter’s opinion along with the ongoing congressional investigation into January 6th is probably enough for Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Justice Department to launch a criminal probe against Donald Trump, but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to happen. There is a long history of former presidents in the United States avoiding criminal prosecution but then again, no president has ever been as lawless as Donald Trump.
