Thom Hartmann is joined by Dr. Steven Chermak, a Professor at the School of Criminal Justice-Michigan State University and a Contributor to START: National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism Dr. Chermak's research includes activities in the following areas: far-right extremism, the effectiveness of strategies used to prevent terrorism and crime, and the media's role in relation to crime and terrorism issues.
He is collaborating with Professor Joshua Freilich to create the first of its kind National Database on criminal activities involving the domestic far right since 1990. (Chermak was primary author of this report supported by the Dept. of Homeland Security in 2011) - The Organizational Dynamics of Far-Right Hate Groups in the United States: Comparing Violent to Non-Violent Organizations.
