COVID isn't the only thing spreading. Restaurant workers are facing an increasingly hostile work environment from customers demanding more than a meal.

Take off your mask so I know how much to tip you. Workers in hospitality are seeing demands to take of their masks, so their customer can see them and decide what tip to leave. This is harassment, meaning that people are unprotected from the virus.

Tipped workers have suffered significantly from the downturn. However, the workers are also seeing a significant rise in sexual harassment and other harassment from customers. Their tips are down by over 40%, meaning many have serious financial burdens.

Saru Jayaraman joins Thom Hartmann to explain the issues facing tipped workers across the US, especially as it affects females. Saru Jayaraman is the President of One Fair Wage / Director- Food Labor Research Center, University of California, Berkeley.
