A recent study has shown that gun violence is significantly worse in red states compared to blue states, which contradicts the common narrative pushed by Republicans about violence and gun violence being a problem in “Democrat cities.” An article in Politico magazine reveals that blue areas historically and presently have significantly lower rates of gun violence, whether it is divided regionally or state to state. The Deep South has some of the highest rates of gun death among major regions, despite being one of the most conservative parts of the country, while right-wing Great Appalachia has the highest rate of gun suicides among major regions. Violence and crime are complicated issues related to culture, economics, gun laws, access to mental health services, and many others. While solving the problem requires considering factors such as mental health, culture, poverty, and education, guns cannot be excluded from the discussion.
