California Governor Gavin Newsom has been putting together a master class in how to fight back rhetorically against the Republican Party. Newsom seems ready to position himself for a presidential run in 2024, provided that Joe Biden decides to not run for reelection. When speaking about the stunt that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis pulled, flying migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, Newsom made all the right points. He said, “look, it's clear that DeSantis broke the law. The question is, which law did he break? Did he break the laws of his own state? Did he break federal law? But one thing he did is he broke with precedent, any precedent of decency and honor.” This is the exact type of straight talk that’s needed from Democratic Party leaders. Even for those on the left who don’t like Newsom, the way he speaks about the issues should be used as a blueprint for fellow Democrats.
