House Minority Whip Steve Scalise went on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace and on several occasions, refused to acknowledge that the 2020 election was not stolen from Donald Trump. Wallace said to Scalise, “clearly there were irregularities with the last election, there are irregularities in all elections, but I want to ask you a specific question: Do you think the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump? . . .” Wallace then went on to ask if repeated claims about the election being stolen undermines American democracy. Scalise tried to weasel out of answering the question at first, saying that his issue was that some states supposedly didn’t follow their own election laws and legislative rules. Wallace then asked him point blank, “so you think the election was stolen?” The Republican congressman followed up with more rambling about how the country needs to get back to following the Constitution. Wallace asked Scalise the question for a third time and yet again Scalise tried to obfuscate and wouldn’t provide a direct answer. Clearly Scalise was afraid to answer definitively one way or another because, even a year after the election, either a yes or no answer could have grave political consequences. It’s good to see at least one voice at Fox News trying to hold these “big lie” perpetuators accountable.
