Today is primary day in a number of states including North Carolina, which means that Republican Congressman Madison Cawthorn will be put to the test in his first re-election effort. A number of scandals have come to light about Cawthorn in recent weeks presenting some level of challenge to his campaign. Even though many Republicans appear to want to oust Madison over his claim about them being involved in drug use and sex parties, Donald Trump backs the congressman’s re-election effort. Trump posted on his Truth Social platform in part, “when Madison was first elected to Congress, he did a great job. Recently, he made some foolish mistakes, which I don’t believe he’ll make again…let’s give Madison a second chance!” This endorsement by Trump likely shows that Cawthorn will safely win his race since the former president claims to value his endorsement record and wouldn’t want to risk it if it was expected Madison would lose.
