Florida Governor Ron DeSantis faces a conundrum as he contemplates challenging Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. DeSantis gained prominence as an anti-woke anti-CRT culture war advocate, which led him to be a popular choice for running for president. He also built himself up as having a reputation as a winner since he was easily reelected in 2022 when so many Trumpian candidates lost their races. However, the recent indictment of Trump has led to the former president soaring in the primary polling and he’s now built a commanding lead over DeSantis. The Florida governor may be best served to wait until 2028 or 2032 to run for president once Trump is no longer in the picture. However, this could also make DeSantis look weak and contradict the reputation he has built as a fighter. Ron is now boxed into a corner and it could spell disaster for his presidential ambitions.
