Democrats’ chances of holding the House and Senate are dwindling in the final two weeks before the 2022 midterms. While Dems went into the year as underdogs to hold Congress, they significantly improved their chances over the summer, particularly following the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. But now, the outlook is a lot grimmer. In the House of Representatives, Democrats have only a 19% chance of holding the majority according to FiveThirtyEight. The situation is much better in the Senate, but still far worse than it was just six weeks ago. Dems currently have a 55% chance of holding the majority which is heading into coin-flip territory. One news event that may play a role over the next two weeks is the temporary blockage of Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness, which the polls that are soon to come out will take into account.
