Donald Trump’s poll numbers among Republicans have improved ever since the FBI search of his home at Mar-a-Lago. Ron DeSantis had been catching up to Trump in hypothetical 2024 matchups and according to some polls, the Florida governor even pulled out ahead of the former president. But now, Republicans feel aggrieved over the search of Trump’s property. And that’s causing some concern among the left that it could wipe out the ground Democrats were picking up in 2022 midterm races following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe vs. Wade. There are signs, however, that the boost for Trump could be short-lived. As more details come out having to do with what Trump is accused of, and possibly even criminal charges coming his way, more reasonable right-wingers may see the legitimacy of the investigation and decide the ex-president is too much of a liability to keep as the figurehead of the Republican Party.
