The Washington Post reports that Donald Trump is currently under criminal investigation by the Justice Department. Investigators are looking into Trump’s involvement in the fake elector scam that led up to the events of January 6th. Justice Department officials have seized the communications and phone records of his top aides, trying to find out more about the plan devised with Trump’s lawyers and the pressure the former president placed on Mike Pence. During the first round of January 6th committee hearings, the question lingered about whether Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Biden Justice Department had any interest in charging Trump. While that answer remains uncertain, at least we know the first steps are underway in that direction.
