Joe Biden’s approval rating has collapsed and now he’s having trouble getting Democrats to support him for re-election. A new poll from The New York Times and Siena College says that 64% of Democratic voters would prefer a different nominee than Biden in the 2024 race. The FiveThirtyEight average for Biden’s approval rating sits at 38.6% with 55.9% of the country disapproving of his job as president. This is basically a reversal of the high approval numbers Biden enjoyed during the first six months of his presidency. It was already not seeming super likely that Biden was going to run for a second term, given that he would be 82 years old on Inauguration Day 2025. These low approval numbers, even within members of his own party, may push Biden decisively in the direction of choosing not to run again.
