Sonali Kolhatkar speaks with Maria Armoudian, Senior lecturer at The University of Auckland, author of Kill the Messenger: The Media’s Role in the Fate of the World, and, Reporting from the Danger Zone. Her latest book is called Lawyers Without Borders: Advancing International Rights Through Local Laws and Courts.
There are many ways to make social change: street activism and protest, political organizing, running for office, petitioning, boycotts, and more. Today we’ll turn to the author of a new book who has highlighted how principled lawyers are using the legal system as a tool for social change.
Rising Up with Sonali is a radio and television show that brings progressive news coverage rooted in gender and racial justice to a wide audience. Rising Up With Sonali was built on the foundation of Sonali Kolhatkar's earlier show, Uprising, which became the longest-running drive-time radio show on KPFK in Los Angeles hosted by a woman. RUS airs on Free Speech TV every weekday.
