A federal investigation is underway into Hunter Biden, the president’s son, for suspected crimes connected to his business dealings in foreign countries. Specifically, investigators are looking at whether Hunter and his associates violated money laundering, tax, and foreign lobbying laws. He has so far not been charged with any crimes and has denied any wrongdoing. Joe Biden is not being investigated as part of the probe, but this has not stopped right-wingers from drawing a connection between the two Bidens on this matter.
If Hunter Biden did commit crimes, he should be prosecuted, as is true for everybody else. Unlike the Trump kids, however, Hunter has played no role in his father’s political campaign or administration, so it would be unfair to extend blame to the president himself for this. Many in conservative circles act like this is a moment to be celebrated, but there’s not much of a presidential scandal here without a connection to Joe Biden.
