"FUND DRIVE SHOW ------- Is it possible for all people to not just survive, but to thrive? Our founders wrote that all men are created equal, but we see examples on a daily basis of how untrue this statement remains. And women are still not included in our Constitution. We are living out similar struggles and challenges with so many of our institutions, whether it be the banking system, our judicial system, our education system, our healthcare system, and much more. Why is this? For one, in the past several decades, there has been a massive transfer of wealth away from bottom 90% to the top 1%. This results in a vast sea of economic despair. What are we going to do about this? Our guest today, author, thought leader, and spiritual teacher Marianne Williamson, reminds us that this kind of oppression and inequality cannot last forever. We must make a wise and responsible turn as a country. We must introduce economic justice and provide for economic reform. There is systemic racism in this country. Many Americans are uneducated or undereducated. We cannot move forward unless we examine our past and the inequalities inherent in our system. In the 2020 election, Marianne ran for President as a Democratic candidate. She discusses the many lessons she learned, including how the system is even more corrupt than she feared and how people are even more wonderful than she hoped. She talks about the various powerful movements today and how people are taking action, whether it be through Black Lives Matter, the MeToo movement, or taking a stand for environmental justice. It is up to us to make the changes. And, yet, there is tremendous resistance from the system. She discusses how the results of corrupt greed are everywhere – from toxins in the air, our lack of safety, expensive or non-existent medical insurance, rising costs of food, and so much more. She talks about how this malevolent form of capitalism, whereby short-term profits are placed before the safety and well-being of the people, animals, planet, and community, must come to an end. Leaders must develop ethics and in order to live ethical lives, we can’t make money the most important aspect of our lives. While corporations are making record profits, we witness continuous injustices as so many people are unhoused or struggle with rent; the dream of homeownership is becoming nearly impossible for so many, and tuition costs continue to rise because of the “big business” that higher education has become. It is a story of Powerful vs Powerless in this country. Yet, there is hope. Awareness is rising and a light is shining on these issues. Marianne proposes we can have fundamental economic reform by demanding things from our leaders such as universal health care; free or low-cost college and tech schools; free childcare; paid family leave; sick pay; and livable wages. These are not impossible ideas. Marianne explains how it IS possible to move out of the Dark Ages so many are living in toward an Age of Awakening. This is a special Fund Drive show.
