UN Secretary General Plugs Proposed SE4All Initiative

RIO DE JANEIRO -- U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon wasted no time in plugging the proposed energy goals enshrined in an UN initiative he unveiled at its three-day conference here on sustainable development.

His opening statement at the Rio+20 summit had plenty o say about SE4All (Sustainable Energy for All), without mentioning its disparaging treatment by politicians, reports OneWorld.net.

"Businesses and investors have committed more than $50 billion to achieve the initiative's three objectives," he said, noting that the initiative will enable access to more than one billion people during its lifespan."

The reminder in the first para of the initiative that "increasing energy is a central challenge facing the world," was heartening to many attendees.
