GUEST: Hamid Khan, coordinator of the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition.
BACKGROUND: Donald Trump has made good on his promise to militarize police departments around the country, ostensibly as a reward for the Fraternal Order of Police, one of his strongest campaign supporters.
Under the previous administration, strong community pressure led President Obama to pass an executive order limiting the transfer of excess military equipment and weapons to law enforcement agencies around the US. Now Trump has reversed that order.
Meanwhile the Los Angeles Police Department has been working to normalize the use of drones in the greater LA area. The Stop LAPD Spying Coalition is a local organization working to hold the department accountable and stop the deployment of drones.
