As the news of President Donald Trump testing positive for the coronavirus causes shockwaves around the country and the world, many have wasted no time in pointing out the irony of the President catching a disease he has downplayed and lied about. Trump has promoted so much misinformation that a new study proves he bears the greatest responsibility for spreading lies about the coronavirus.
Researchers at Cornell University published their study hours before Trump’s positive Covid-19 test. In it they examined 38 million English language articles about the virus worldwide. According to the study’s authors, it is “the first comprehensive survey of the traditional and online media landscape on this issue,” concluding that, “he President of the United States was likely the largest driver of the COVID-19 misinformation ‘infodemic.’”
