Outgoing Defense Secretary James Mattis was replaced at the beginning of this year by his Deputy Defense Secretary, Patrick Shanahan. Shanahan, until as recently as 2017, was a high-level executive at Boeing corporation - one of the leading weapons manufacturers in the US. In fact he worked at Boeing for 30 years.
