Even before Bernie Sanders began surging in the polls, a battle was taking place behind the scenes for the soul of the Democratic Party. As they were preparing for the 2016 election, the Party needed to figure out if they were going to be true progressives, or if they were going to move further into the Blue Dog, Corporatist Democrat arena.
