In Washington today, a Senate committee unanimously approved legislation to bolster online privacy protections by requiring law enforcement agencies to obtain a warrant before accessing personal emails and other electronic files. Progress on the Electronic Communications Privacy Act follows on the heels of newly released government documents that reveal close collaboration between the Pentagon the Department of Homeland Security and Internet service providers in monitoring communications carried on private networks.
