A months-long tiff between Democrats and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) over a diplomatic nominee who hails from Puerto Rico moved concluded Thursday on the Senate floor.
The Senate voted 62-37 to break a filibuster on the nomination of Mari Carmen Aponte, whom President Obama selected to serve as ambassador to El Salvador. The upper chamber then approved her nomination by voice vote. Aponte’s nomination had hung in the balance since December, when her temporary appointment to the position expired.
