In Washington DC today, lawmakers questioned Apple executives on how and why they used shell companies in Ireland, offshore accounts in several countries, and legal loopholes in the US to avoid paying billions in taxes.  Several Senate Democrats said the report shows the need for  Congress to close tax loopholes and collect more corporate tax revenue, especially in a time of record corporate profits and dire shortfalls in government spending.
