BACKGROUND: When faced with the existential crises of global warming and nuclear annihilation, politicians often speak in terms of transitioning away from the causes of the crises. And these are the liberal politicians. It is assumed that human beings cannot handle abrupt changes even in the face of certain destruction. Why is that? Is it human nature, or the very definition of human nature?
