BACKGROUND: A massive national series of actions this weekend are aimed at immigrant detention centers in the US. Thousands of undocumented immigrants are being held in various facilities around the US, many of them run by for-profit corporations. Conditions inside some of the detention centers are so severe that they have been dubbed “Concentration camps.”

Organizing under the banner of “Close the Camps,” a broad coalition of immigrant rights, civil rights, anti-racist, and social justice organizations are gathering this weekend in various metropolitan areas including Newark, New Jersey, San Antonio, Texas, and Los Angeles, California.
