ICE Closes 1 Percent of Deportation Cases

WASHINGTON -- John Morton, director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), said Thursday that the government has reviewed half of the 300,000 cases of pending deportations. Of these, only 1,500, or 1 percent, were administratively closed. The administration announced in August 2011 that it would review all pending deportation cases. Morton said the majority of the closed cases were cases of those who have lived in the United States for many years and have U.S.-citizen spouses or children.
