Six years later, Mayer reveals her subjects responded by hiring a private firm to discredit her reporting. Mayer details the episode in her new book on the Kochs and their right-wing, ultra-rich allies, "Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right."
