Gay USA: April 24-30, 2012

A big breakthrough for transgender rights at the EEOC. President Obama remembers the gay victims of the Holocaust. Mitt Romney appoints a gay man as a foreign policy spokesperson and gets it from both sides. In North Carolina where voters will decide on a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage and more on May 8, our side unveils some powerful ads. Civil unions advance in Colorado. The “Don’t Say Gay” bill advances in Tennessee. The Boy Scouts expel a lesbian mom from leading a Cub Scout troop and a national uproar ensues.  In Washington, DC, one US Marine hurls an anti-gay slur at another Marine and then stabs him to death. The Pope chastises US nuns for spending too much time helping the poor and not enough beating up on gay people. The new director of GLAAD comes out swinging. A gay PTA group is sanctioned on Long Island, NY. Lots of openings on and off Broadway including “Peter and the Starcatcher,” “Clybourne Park” and “One Man, Two Guv’nors.”
