California Governor Gavin Newsom was interviewed by a news station in Los Angeles and called for the Democratic Party to be more aggressive in order to defeat Republicans in future elections. Newsom said, “you have to also recognize what you’re up against. And right now, we’re up against the ruthlessness of a Republican Party and I say that not naively, I don’t say that — that’s not a cheap shot. You see what’s happening to all the progress we’ve made in the 21st century, all of the rights that we in many ways have taken for granted that have been afforded since the ‘60s are being rolled back in real time.” Gavin went on to talk about the ridiculous notion that Democrats can come together with Republicans and have a cup of tea while coming to agreements on polarizing issues. Newsom is no progressive hero, but he’s using winning rhetoric and it’s clear he has intentions to run for national office at some point in the future.
